New Yorkers would go mad without this green oasis.
The 843 acres of Central Park forms an improbable perfect rectangle of green at the center of Manhattan. This was America’s first public park when it opened in 1872 and after suffering from years of decline in the 1980s and 90s it is safer, more beautiful and more central to New Yorkers’ lives than ever. The paths along the north end of the Sheep’s Meadow afford classic skyline views, and kids will love the Central Park Children’s Zoo (5th Ave and 64th Street), Wollman Rink and The Friedsam Carousel (near 65th Street). I prefer the boathouse area. It's a great place to sit back and relax as your significant other rows his way into your heart.
