Like it or loathe it, this bullfighting spectacle provides an insight into Portuguese culture.

Hemingway argued that you could never tell who would enjoy or be disgusted by a bullfight. Highly contraversial, not least amongst the Portuguese themselves, bullfights take place weekly to a chorus of fervent followers and objectors. The theatre itself is a stunning example of dusk orange, neo-moorish architecture. The fights are said to be more humane than in Spain, as it's illegal for the bull to be killed during the fight, whether that justifies the event, you'll have to decide for yourself.
