A taste of Old Vegas with casinos and live music.
Downtown's not my favourite area of Vegas, but the one place in the neighbourhood that you should make it to is Fremont Street - a four block strip recreating how Vegas used to look, with casinos, bars, shops, neon signs and live entertainment from 7pm nightly.
It's a living, working street, rather than a tourist trap - it's just been covered with a ceiling (that's used as a projection space during performances), and it happens to contain some of the most famous neon signs from around the city.
Gambling is cheap down here, as is the food (deep-fried Oreos, hot dogs and the like). And no, it's not smart, but it's a lot of fun. Great for families and those who rue the passing of the old days on the Strip, before fashionistas took it over.
