Wonderful views of the Strip from the Eiffel Tower - it's romance central come night time.

If, as I did, you thought there was no point in going up the Eiffel Tower because you'd be standing on one of the things you'd be wanting in your view, then you're wrong. Once you're 460ft up in the air in the middle of the Strip, with the Bellagio fountains playing out beneath you and the Luxor's searchlight piercing the air below, you won't even notice what you're missing. This is where you'll feel in the centre of the action.

Just be aware (especially if you have kids) that the title "Eiffel Tower Ride" is a complete misnomer. The "ride" is nothing more than a lift to an upstairs, outside viewing deck. It's fun, but it doesn't belong in a funfair. Where it does belong is in a romance novel - with 360 degree views of the Strip and the city below you, it's no wonder things tend to get a little heated up there.

Value for money

Price advice

The price varies depending on what time you're going up there. From 9.30am to 7.15pm, it operates "daytime pricing" - US$10.50 for adults, US$7.50 for children. From then onwards it's US$15.50.

Queues can supposedly get lengthy at peak times, in which case you can buy an express pass for $23. Having said that, I've never seen any wait long enough to justify spending the extra money. The line moves pretty quickly.

Expert tips

You may be kept waiting at peak times (before midnight) so if you want to get there at a specific time, leave about half an hour to make it up, to be safe.

Decide on when you want to go up. In the daytime, you can see the mountains surrounding the valley, but at night, you get the glitz of the Strip.
