Spectacular rock formation jutting out over the sea providing a peaceful sunbathing platform.

You’ll hear the Ibiza locals rave on and on about the “flat rocks” as if they were the holy grail of beaches, however (of course!) there’s nothing on the maps by that name, nor will any Spanish people be able to assist in giving you directions as it’s just a nickname. Punta Galera is in fact the real name is this legendary destination, to be found just to the left of Cala Salada (bypass the entrance and keep heading to the left and you’ll eventually find it), and it’s a sight that makes me truly awestruck each and every time I go.

Huge slabs of flat rocks (funnily enough) jut out from the cliff face in all different angles and places – from high enough that you can use as a diving platform into the picture-perfect deep blue sea below, or down low where you can wade into the water. There are slabs big enough for large groups (practicing yoga here is popular) and more intimate shelves suited for couples or those wanting their own little slice of peace and quiet.

Expert tips

Watch your valuables – sadly, Punta Galera is known for theft from both cars and beach bags, given the lack of amenities and people around, so travelling light is recommended.

Yoga and meditation enthusiasts should arrive early in the morning to score the best flat rocks on which to practice, and make the most of the silence before beachgoers begin splashing about.

There's a naked guy selling beer, water and drinks from his cool box – he’s a bit of a local legend and given that he’s the only person on the rock selling year after year, he’s probably quite rich!

Be careful of jellyfish (in Spanish “medusas”) in July and August, as there’s no lifeguards or first aid anywhere nearby to help.
