Experience an enormous aquarium within a gargantuan mall.

It's not enough over here to just have shops in a shopping centre anymore, oh no. In the Mall of the Emirates, there's the ridiculous Ski Dubai whereas in The Dubai Mall, there's the huge Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo. Looking through the world's largest acrylic panel (naturally) mall guests can see some of the 33,000 aquatic inhabitants - including a few sharks - while shopping. For a closer experience, you can go inside, either with a simple stroll through the aquarium tunnel, a trip to the underwater zoo (showing various crabs, penguins, octopuses and crocodiles) or a glass bottom boat ride. You can also get into the water if you wish, with a cage snorkling experience or even a shark dive. If you don't mind bag-laden shoppers watching you as you dive with the big fish, this is a rather strange experience you're unlikely to repeat.

Price advice

Entry to the aquarium tunnel alone costs 25 dirhams for adults, 20 dirhams for children. For the underwater zoo as well, it's 50 dirhams per person. A shark dive costs 625 for certified divers and 825 for uncertified. The cage snorkling experience is 225 dirhams per person, minimum age 10. Watching everything through the big glass panel with the other shoppers is, of course, free.
