See art for free in Bath’s biggest gallery.

I love wandering around Victoria Art Gallery’s ever changing exhibits in the lower gallery. In 2011 look out for David Tress’ Landmarks – a collection of pictures of Bath and Harris and Mussi: Fifty Fifty – a Japanese inspired exhibition that uses cloth, paper and reclaimed ceramics. Upstairs in the permanent galleries there are classic oil paintings and watercolours dating back to the 15th Century by artists such as Thomas Gainsborough, Johann Zoffany and Thomas Lawrence. There’s also an interesting collection of decorative arts such as porcelain, glass and watches.

Free behind the scenes tours run every so often – call 01225 477232 to find out when and to book.

Look out for exhibition curator talks and film nights – they cost a small fee, but are fascinating.

See some of the Holburne Museum’s collection here until it reopens in May 2011.
