An outstanding collection of Catalan art, from the Romanesque to Modernisme.

I admit there’s a fair chance that you will never have heard of any of the artists on display at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (except, perhaps, El Greco and Cranach, who’ve slipped in there for purposes of comparison), but it’s still a fascinating collection of local art through the ages. The Romanesque section is unmissable – it includes 21 murals rescued, mostly, from crumbling Pyrenean churches, and remounted here. The Gothic art section is also a highlight, as is the collection of Modernista furniture from the turn of the last century.
