The Arts come to Alicante in a big way.

With the opening of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante in May 2011, a major collection of some of the most influential artists of the 20th century, including, Chagall, Cocteau, Dalí, Picasso and Miró, found a permanent home. The Museum is in the 17th-century Casa de la Asegurada, one of the city’s best examples of Baroque architecture, to which a striking modern glass and concrete extension has been added to house the collection. In March of the same year, the architecturally impressive Auditorio de Alicante was inaugurated, giving the city a concert hall with 1,500 seats, a chamber orchestra hall accommodating 320 spectators. With the completion of Las Cigarreras, an 18th century former cigar factory the city will have a dynamic space or 300,000 square feet for music, dance and the visual arts, as well as rooms for concerts and exhibitions research facilities, an artists’ residence, interactive spaces and gardens and a restaurant.
