Shopping in New York City

Shopaholics give thanks! New York is one of the best retail capitals in the world full of the high-end labels and cheap chic bargains that make serious shoppers arrive with one or even more empty suitcases.

Add in a weak dollar and more sales and discounts than I have seen elsewhere, and the temptations and deals are pretty unparalleled. Bargain shopping is the subject of Amanda Statham's guide - Bagging bargains in New York.

There are pockets of great shopping throughout the city - Times Squares has huge emporiums like Toys R' Us and Gap, Midtown is home to one stop department stores like Barneys, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales, and Soho has a great mix of high street spots like Uniqlo and American Apparel with small one of a kind boutiques.

The main problem will be hitting everywhere that you want to, so make sure you make a list of what you most want from trainers, electronics, toys, and designer duds and then plan an itinerary like the one for Soho we list here to make sure you hit all your top choices. You'll probably want to set apart at least one to two days in town just for your retail jaunts.
