Calella de Palafrugell and the nearby satellite beach villages like Llafranc, are very much the classy end of the beach resort spectrum, so you’ll find the shops accordingly chi-chi and stylish. Unless you’re very lucky, you are unlikely to find any great bargains here but you may well find some very stylish outfits, jewellery pieces or artworks. As this area has long been popular with artists, in Calella de Palafrugell, you’ll also find quite a few small galleries.
I particularly like the hybrid gallery-cum-boutique Santse Art (Calle Codina 3; www.santse-art.com), just behind the seafront.
In Palafrugell itself there’s also an excellent weekly food market on Tuesdays selling the reddest, most sun-ripened tomatoes you’ve ever seen, wonderfully green lettuces as well as local honeys and a wide choice of olives.
