Copenhagen isn’t exactly on the global map of great shopping cities but perhaps it should be. Don't expect huge temples to conspicuous consumption - of which there are few - but do look for craft and style, for the unique, the quirky and the cool, because you'll find it in abundance here.
Make no mistake, there’s extraordinary design talent on show in the city’s many chic little owner-run ateliers and design collectives. If true luxury is about individuality and provenance, you could argue Copenhagen is its epitome. It’s all about the city’s strength in the applied arts. From buildings and interiors to jewellery, porcelain and fashion - there’s much to treasure here. Copenhagen's native design talent isn't the only draw though.
The city itself is a pleasure to spend time in, whether you're splashing the cash or merely window shopping. The historic generally car-free centre is a calm retail neighbourhood, free, away from the main drag at least, from the homogenous brands and signs on show in so many other of the world's town and cities.
Above all else Copenhagen lets you experience it on a very human scale. Together with its love of detail and individuality, it has much to offer.
