Food and drink
Speciality teas from a local supplier and their own coffee blend served in attractive fine china. Apart from fresh daily soups, delicious Victoria, lemon drizzle and carrot cakes fill the gap between meals.
Locally made cup cakes and scones are always my target washed down with their rather good latte.
The small tea room with its miss-matching furniture, powder pinks and rich blue colourings is quaint without being chintzy, while the low murmurings from the old movies and newsreels shown don’t get in the way of genteel conversation.
I’m reminded of visiting my kindly old Nan who like the staff here would be happy to fatten me up all day with cakes and biscuits.
On High Petergate just around the corner from the minster.
Excellent value, soups and cakes should cost no more than £3.00 and if planning to stay in York for a while, grab a loyalty card for a free 10th cup of coffee. Should you take a fancy to anything you see, you can also buy the table cloths, crockery, art on the wall, in fact just about anything you see and take it home with you.
Tables to book
It’s a cafe so no bookings, but if alone I like to sit in front of the old movies.
