Food and drink
The wood-covered menu is modern and imaginative international/fusion food. The chef-manager is a real foodie and the menu changes regularly. As an example though you might find something like fresh tuna in a sesame seed crust or venison in red wine and chocolate sauce. As well as being commended for its food in Malta’s Definitive Guide to Good Restaurants, Maji won the top award for its Maltese wine list.
The old members’ room is now a comfortable bar, the old library a cozy white-clothed winter restaurant with warm beige drapes, and the small roof terrace is the place to eat in summer with delightful night-time views over the domes, towers and rooftops of Victoria. The atmosphere is very relaxed and families are welcome (there is even a small children’s menu).
The service is very personal if not necessarily fast. The chef-manager loves to discuss the food - but woe betide anyone who (like my son) asks for a steak well done!
It's between Victoria’s main square – Independence Square – and neighbouring Savina Square, in the heart of the capital just below the citadel.
Starters cost on average 9 euros, and mains 15-20 euros. Kids' dishes are mostly 6.50 euros.
