Food and drink
The blackboard menu changes daily but the constants of local, seasonal and sophisticated rustic offerings remain. Wines are mostly from the estate and are excellent.
I'm a fan of Michael's risottos and pastas - light, lovely and whispered flavour marriages. Hearty offerings such as pork belly, confit and oxtail feature too and if there's fillet with marrow topping, order it.
Delightfully laid back as befits the al fresco surrounds. I find the interiors uninspired - though the food more than makes up for it.
Service here is slick and unobtrusive. The staff are knowledgeable too.
Kleine Zalze Wine Estate, Stellenbosch.
Main courses are, on average, 130 rand. A 'green season' out-of-season menu offers winter specials.
