Food and drink
The chicken wings are perfectly barbequed, juicy but not overcooked, with a honey glaze and slightly garlicky seasoning, accompanied by a tangy chilli sauce. But my favourite dish is the friend carrot cake, also known as chai tow kway. (this isn’t the carrot cake we all know and love, more a Singaporean version made out of radish – known as ‘white carrot’ in Chinese) Huat Huat’s carrot cake is light and fluffy whipped up with eggs and served in an omelet style, and I like to add extra chili on the side.
Gluttons Bay is a small selection of about 12 hawker stalls, situated outdoors near the Esplanade. It’s a little rustic, hot and sweaty, but slightly more upmarket than your average hawker centre.
Curt, but efficient.
Gluttons Bay is right next door to the Esplanade Mall, overlooking Marina Bay and just minutes to the CBD.
Chicken wings are $1.30 each and a small plate of fried carrot cake is $4. Bargain.
