A popular neighbourhood tapas bar in the Santa Catalina Barrio.

This is a small family-run bar, which Felipe Salas has turned into one of the most popular in the neighbourhood.

Food and drink

It's a mostly Mediterranean-style menu with a few Arabic touches. Their best dish has to be the brandada de bacalao, which is a very flavourful garlicky salt cod spread on toast. I also love the fried potatoes served with a creamy basil alioli and the daily special menu always has something new and delicious on offer. It is vegetarian friendly too.

Ambience

The name La Giganta refers to the famous Giralda statue on the tower of the same name (not to the restaurant itself) and there are photos and paintings of both on all of the walls. It's very casual and comfortable.

Service

The service is very personal and efficient.

Location

Next to the Santa Catalina Church, it's about a 15-minute walk from the centre.

Price advice

It's excellent value with tapas starting around 2.80 euros. You can have a nice tapas meal for less than 10 euros a person.
