4.4

Organic gourmet dining in Puerto's hippest restaurant.

Stylishly trendy with a psychadelic colur scheme, animal prints and a cactus chair (!), El Maná is something of a rarity in Tenerife - an organic, wholefood restaurant with a wide choice of vegetarian dishes. Forget the vegetable lasagne and bean burgers, this is gourmet wholefood cuisine by the chef owner.

Food and drink

It is international/Canarian/Spanish fusion with lots of imagination in both ingredients and presentation. Plenty of vegetarian options sit alongside the occasional steak, chicken and fish dish.

Recommended dishes

Last time I was here we had a degustación (selection) between four of us which was great fun. I've also enjoyed the goats' cheese salad and the tofu curry.

Ambience

It's trendy and hip with Puerto's twenty-somethings. Fun and lively. I've never seen a visitor in here but that may be because they don't know about it.

Service

It's informal and friendly. The owner chef likes to explain his philosophy and his dishes to new customers.

Location

It's on a quiet street behind the harbour and alongside the restaurant district but just far enough away to remain a secret.

Price advice

The degustación (taster) menus are 24.80 euros and 33.80 euros for two people. A starter plus main and a dessert averages around 18 to 20 euros. The lunch time menu del día is 10.25 euros and in the evening is 14 euros.
