Food and drink
Food here is solid, unpretentious and nicely executed. The antipasti, pizza and pasta dishes are excellent, but for something a little more rib-sticking – I’m thinking autumn lunches when it is still warm enough to eat outside – their succulent roast rack of lamb with rosemary is a winner.
This is a jolly, family-run restaurant with a bustling atmosphere, a warm, candle-lit interior and smart terrace furnished with comfy wicker armchairs and canvas parasols.
The waiters and waitresses are completely charming and actually seem to be enjoying what they are doing.
Restaurante Il Giardino is in one of the prettiest plazas on the island with plenty of people watching opportunities - not so shabby.
The restaurant offers a good selection of reasonably-priced lunch menus (three courses for 19 euros). A bowl of pasta or risotto costs 9.50-14 euros (for squid ink and seafood). Pizzas run around 8-12 euros, while a slab of fillet steak will set you back 24.50 euros.
Tables to book
The best tables depend on the weather really. It's all more than agreeable though.
