Lovely for an outdoor meal in the très hip Amour.

Fashionable, trendy yet not show-off, the restaurant at the hip arty [node:123269] created by André, Thierry (son of Costes) and Emmanuel Delaveyne has become a hangout for arty Parisians, in particular for its wonderful overgrown courtyard garden. Inside is 70s' vintage bistro style. Outside, there are little round tables in a walled courtyard garden, romantically draped in swathes of ivy and Virginia creeper. They recently added a retractable glass roof (or what they call the veranda), so that you can eat indoors/outdoors all year round. The roof also comes on at 10.30pm for the sake of neighbours and those staying in the hotel.

Old favourites, good ingredients: simply prepared roast free-range chicken, a cheeseburger, Caesar salad, even fish and chips.

Ambience

Buzzy and international whether sunning in the garden by day or in the evening when little candles flicker on the tables, and as much a hang-out for Parisians as hotel guests.

Service

Although Costes places have a reputation for attitude, I found the waitresses here really friendly. Food can be a little slow to arrive but they'll do their best to find you a table and were perfectly happy when a friend just wanted radishes and dessert.

Location

Up and coming SoPi (South Pigalle), just off foodie rue des Martyrs.

Price advice

Around 30 euros for three courses, although you can easily just lunch on a main course or a salad.

Tables to book

Outside rather than inside. Most romantic are the little tables hidden in the rockery at the rear.
