Food and drink
The blackboard menu puts the emphasis on seasonal produce. I had a superb starter of sautéed ceps one autumn, while other starters might include spring asparagus, terrine accompanied by a pot of cornichons or the home-smoked organic salmon and house foie gras that you can also buy to take away. Main courses include a good steak with chunky chips and Béarnaise sauce, pork from the Bigorre in the Pyrenees, winter game and the fish catch of the day, while the cocotte de légumes, a pot of colourful sautéed vegetables provides a better than usual vegetarian option. Desserts are taken seriously too: good fruit tarts and a tempting chocolate terrine.
Vintage corner café with tightly packed tables (you don't come here for privacy) and the buzz of the branché Marais.
It's casual and friendly.
Usefully placed near the place des Vosges and the Marais art galleries and fashion boutiques. The museums of the name include Carnavalet and the currently closed Picasso.
Dinner costs around 30 euros for three courses, with a 13 euro formule at lunch.
