A cozy wine bar and Italian eatery in restaurant-crazy Astoria.

Vesta is one of Astoria's best restaurants. And that's saying a lot since this part of Queens has been a culinary mecca for years. The restaurant's combination of quality wine and affordable, Italian fare lures diners from far and wide.

Food and drink

You can find better Italian food elsewhere but the quality for the price can't be beat. Some of the dishes are truly inspired.

Recommended dishes

The menu changes seasonally, but the pizza are always available and can fill two people. Try the meat lasagna or free-range steak if they are available. Vesta is part of the slow food revolution that's been sweeping across the nation.

Ambience

It's cozy not kitschy. There aren't that many seats and they fill up quickly. It's mainly locals with a smattering of Manhattanites who've discovered this little gem.

Service

It's quite pleasant and the waiters are easy on the eye. I've never had to wait for my drink or dish.

Location

On a quiet stretch near the subway in Astoria. It's a bit off the beaten track and thank God for that.

Price advice

Dinner for two costs about $60 if both diners get appetizers. The pizza is pretty affordable - $15 or less - and can easily satisfy two people. Brunch for two runs to about $40 for two people.
