An inexpensive but great taqueria in the Financial District.

Toloache Taqueria is an uber-casual eatery that offers seasonal Mexican plates at an affordable price. Wall Street has few inexpensive restaurants offering quality food, so this is a welcome addition to the Financial District.

Food and drink

It's Mexican street food but it's created with flair and care. Tortas, tacos and sopas are all featured. The restaurant features Mexican sodas, agua frescas and Mexican hot chocolate.

Recommended dishes

I liked the pepito torta and the beef brisket was also flavorful and filling; the puerco tacos were a hit with my friend. The chocolate-glazed pork was seamlessly combined with chipotle cabbage slaw.

Ambience

This is a very casual eatery. It has 35 seats but most people head here for take out. The crowd is mostly bankers and other locals.

Service

Service is pretty efficient. This is a fast food style joint so you expect your food in a timely manner and the waiting staff don't disappoint.

Location

In the heart of the Financial District. The area is devoid of great eateries so Toloache is very welcome.

Price advice

Everything is priced with a tight budget in mind. Most items are between $3 and $9 so dinner or lunch for two won't set you back too far. It's definitely a place for students or anyone looking to beat the recession.
