Food and drink
The food is a wonderful mix of flavours perfectly blended. Many of the ingredients are locally sourced – often within a few hundred metres! The herbs come from the hotel’s own herb garden through which you enter and where you can take aromatic pre-dinner drinks in summer. The wine list is a tome of over 700 wines from 19 different countries, earning it Malta’s top Fine Wines Award for the umpteenth time in The Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants in 2010. They are happy to cater for veggies and coeliacs.
One of the restaurant’s specialities is flambé dishes and the Crepes Suzette Ta’ Frenc is superb.
It's elegant but not uptight, decorated with traditional Maltese clocks and modern paintings. Pre-dinner drinks are taken in the centuries-old farmhouse, while dinner is served in the more recent dining room or out on the covered walled terrace. Children are welcome – throughout the restaurant at lunchtime and in a family area in the evenings.
Service is attentive.
It's away from it all: on its own, outside Marsalforn on the road to Victoria.
Starters and puddings cost 10-15 euros, mains 20-30 euros and bottles of wine range from 12-2000 euros! For those with a little less in their pockets, the set ‘Market Menu’, which changes daily and must be chosen by the whole table, offers four courses for 28 euros per person.
