Food and drink
I love huitlacoche (sweet, mushroomy tasting black corn fungus) and this is one of the few Mexican restaurants in London that serve it. Also unusually, there’s a choice of three different mole dishes, and pozole cooked Guerrero-style, which you can have with chicken, pork or a mixture of the two. Don’t fret if all you want is straightforward tacos or enchiladas – they serve them too. The choice of tequilas is encyclopedic.
Smart and contemporary, but not dauntingly so. As the evening wears on it takes on a nightclub vibe thanks to the colourful bar.
Cheerful and knowledgeable.
It’s a bright spot in a dreary area.
Mains start under a tenner for the vegetarian options but stretch right up to £24 for beef fillet with chicken enchilada and all the fixings. Tacos are £4.80-£8.60.
The same team own a great little burrito bar on Charlotte Place called El Burrito – see website for details.
