The latest foodie craze in Lisbon is found here in this Brazilian sushi joint.

Sushi by way of brazil may sound like a joke but Japanese food is big business in the land of the samba where they have a large Japanese ethnic community. The fast-food fusion fare has been transported to Lisbon to this very busy snack bar. Not much more than a kiosk with a few tables, the queue for the temaki rolls loops all around the block in weekday lunch hours, so time your arrival well.

Food and drink

The small menu gives a choice of temaki or nori rolls with various cuts of fish. The local favourite, which is more indigenous to São Paolo than Tokyo is the hot filadelfia – a thick ice-cream cone-like roll of rice, filled with deep-fried tuna, cream cheese and fried onions. About as fatty as you can make sushi, but so worth it.

Ambience

There are a couple of tables to sit down at but it's more of a take-away joint.

Service

Not much to speak of given that you just make your order at the till. However I've overheard the staff speak English, which is a help when deciphering the menu.

Location

Right next to the Baixa entrance of the Chiado metro station.

Price advice

Expect to spend between 3–8 euros for a roll.
