Food and drink
A mix of classic Catalan and international ingredients and styles – the marinated tuna sashimi which is a house speciality is a case in point. I was slightly wary when I first saw it on the menu as the word ‘fusion’ generally causes me to break out in a cold sweat but it was in fact exceptionally delicate and delicious. For mains there are classics like sirloin steak (served with stuffed potato and red pepper coulis) whilst one of my personal favourites is their duck leg with duck liver, onion chutney and oloroso sherry.
Formal but unstuffy. The restaurant is in the old part of the castle with bare brick walls and original fireplaces and has a rustic, boho feel to it rather than being overly ostentatious.
Prompt without being intrusive.
On the outskirts of the village of La Bisbal, about half an hour’s drive from Girona and not much further from some of the Costa Brava’s loveliest beaches.
Main courses from 18.50 to 29 euros.
