Excellent, good value Catalan cuisine at this untouristy little gem in Girona’s old town.

A Catalan friend of mine first introduced me to this place and it’s exactly the kind of place most tourists don’t go. Despite being right in the heart of the old town, minutes away from the cathedral, it’s full of locals and the menu del dia is particularly good value.

Food and drink

This is contemporary Catalan cooking, stylishly presented. The salads and risottos are particularly good here – last time I had the caramelised goat’s cheese salad to start (the portions are very generous here too so a salad is a good option to start), followed by a deliciously creamy risotto with cod, peppers, courgettes and crispy onions.

Ambience

It's trendy with hip but unobtrusive jazz and acid jazz playing in the background. The dining room is a long, uncluttered room in yellows, greens and browns.

Service

The staff are friendly, attentive and efficient.

Location

It's on a small cobbled lane two minutes from the river in the old town.

Price advice

The menu of the day is 10 euros for lunch, and 16 euros for dinner.
