4.3

Trendy cafe/restaurant open all day - and breakfast is the business.

Just off Edinburgh's main drag and right in the heart of the area known as the pink triangle, Urban Angel ticks all the boxes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, though breakfasts are what I would seek them out for. Clean lines, big windows with window seats, plus a more intimate dining area. There is a downstairs too, which I would avoid as it just feels to enclosed and subterranean.

Food and drink

You get seasonal, mainly organic food produced in a clean, stylish urban environment. Try the Bloody Mary to assuage the heaviest head and driest mouth. French toast with free range bacon and maple syrup or home-made organic muesli and coffee ensure the perfect start to any day, hangover or not. A blackboard displays daily specials. There is an even more urban Urban Angel in Hanover Street, which is also excellent, but this one wins out for its airy rooms, which are perfect after a late night!

Recommended dishes

Breakfast. The Eggs Benedict with crispy bacon is hard to see past, though home-baked cakes and pastries are just the job too.

Ambience

Clean colours, wooden furnishings. Some soft cushions in the window seats. It's bright, functional and trendy.

Service

Staff are young, trendy, smiley and friendly. Informal service with a smile.

Location

Forth Street is just off Broughton Street which is at the top of Leith Walk and the edge of the New Town.
