Great fish restaurant slap bang centre of town.

Tia and Jake Miller started with Fishers down at the shore in Leith and such was the demand for their great food that they opened this, their centre of the city version.

The bar has a good atmosphere all nautical and wooden but it's food people travel to eat. Open all day you can go for a light bite or something more substantial.

The front part of the restaurant is tiered and the best place to sit watching as diners come and go.

Food and drink

Fishers fish soup and fish cakes are big favourites here. Both these options are renowned for their health giving properties after a big night out.

Fish is the theme of the day and daily specials underline their ethos in sourcing local and fresh.  Tia & Jake also make an annual pilgrimage to South Africa to choose some cracking wines, some of which appear with their own Fishers label.

Good vegetarian options are always on the menu too.

Recommended dishes

Fishers fish soup - sticks to your ribs as they say.

Yum the Fish cakes - starter size is big enough if you aren't ravenous. I often opt for two starters and I am not a picker.

Special of the day is always great.

Ambience

Very popular so a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Stone floors, a large aquarium, paper napkins, wooden tables, informal, no fancy nonsense

Service

Friendly, local, helpful, informed.

Location

Thistle Street just behind George Street an easy central location to find.

Price advice

Do deals on specials and promotions come and go. Dinner menu for the whole jing bang is expensive.

Tables to book

Back room looks out over Thistle Street Lane and is more intimate and romantic

The front is great for people watching as it is set out in tiered layers for observing. I always book the front but then I am a girl who likes to talk and gawp.

Branches

Fishers on the water- the original Fishers. Great atmosphere, wooden ,sea faring theme, great bar, Capitain Jack wouldn't look out of place holding court here. Can sit outside and watch boats bobbing if the weathers good.www.fishersbistros.co.uk

The Shore - just next door from Fishers in Leith where they don't specialise in meat!  Marvellous stuff it is too, roasts, steak and my favourite the ham hock cakes with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce trickled over the tip. Can also sit outside. on the 3 days a year it's dry.  www.theshore.biz
