Steaks are king at Shanahan's amid regal, old world surroundings of a Georgian townhouse.

Arrive hungry! The best steaks in Dublin are served in 'man friendly' portions, with creamy sides, so to get value for your money, you'll need to be prepared. Shanahan's untarnished reputation has continued for years, as have the high prices, but you get what you pay for and the dining experience here is worth paying for.

Food and drink

Mouth-watering steaks from 8-24 ounces are the best you'll find in Dublin. There is also great seafood and excellent wine.

Recommended dishes

It's got to be a steak! Go for the fillet with onion strings and creamed spinach.

Ambience

Distinguished diners fit in the historical Georgian setting. It's formal but not uptight.

Service

It's charming and attentive.

Location

Opposite St. Stephen's Green in the city centre.

Price advice

A 'special' four-course menu from Monday to Fridays (5.30pm-6.45pm) is the best value at 55 euros.

Tables to book

Choose window tables on the ground level for romance. Arrive early to enjoy a drink downstairs in the Oval Office.
