With its funky decor and live jazz, Hugo's offers one of Dublin's best Sunday brunches.

The last time I ate here we tried to order a half bottle of wine but when the waiter presented a full bottle ‘by accident’, we couldn't say no, that's the kind of place it is! Find the turquoise exterior - Hugo’s is the cool younger sister of established bars and eateries along Baggot Street on 'The Golden Mile’. It scores big for decor and atmosphere, perhaps not so much for the food, but that doesn’t keep the crowds away.

Food and drink

The menu is short and sweet, with a mix of French and Italian dishes, and something for all palates – tapas and salads, fish, chicken and even wild boar. The wine list is extensive (there are not that many by the glass however). You won’t be blown away by the food, but you’ll have a great time. Homemade desserts are one of the features.

Recommended dishes

Try the steak, or the wild boar. The homemade desserts are delicious.

Ambience

Sunday brunch is a popular and lively affair with live jazz to lift the spirits. The atmosphere is bubbly and warm and there’s something about the colourful walls and mood lighting that provokes great conversation.

Service

It's informal and chatty – you’ll be sharing a few jokes with either your host or your waitron.

Location

It's on the ‘Golden Mile’, Dublin’s Merrion Row, close to Stephen’s Green.

Price advice

Best value is Sunday brunch with dishes from 8-15 euros and live jazz.
