Dubai's outpost of the famed Japanese is pricey but incredible.

Even if you've never been to Nobu before, you're likely to have heard of it: the international celeb-friendly fine-dining outpost famed for serving some of the most exquisite Japanese around. Dubai is the 16th destination for Nobu Matsuhisa's creation and, as you might imagine, is probably the most expensive. But if you've got the money or are looking for a special occasion, there doesn't come one much more special than this (assuming you like Japanese, otherwise forget it).

Food and drink

At Nobu it's almost all Japanese and it's almost all absolutely excellent.

Recommended dishes

Go for the local catch, Hammour, served with dried miso and garlic chips. Awesome.

Ambience

Dimly lit and intimate, this isn't somewhere to get rowdy. There are a merry mix of people, including tourists, locals and expats, but generally there's a smarter dress code (ie, no flipflops).

Service

Friendly and attentive. Let them guide you through the menu.

Location

Nobu is found in the aquatic-themed depths of the vast Atlantis hotel on the tip of the Palm. It's a rather tacky location, but you'll forget any hint of this once you're sat inside.

Price advice

Very expensive. Perhaps even the most expensive of the Nobus, which are notoriously pricey. Expect a meal for two, without drinks, to approach 900-1000 dirhams. There's also a Friday brunch, noon-3.30pm, for 490 dirhams.
