Food and drink
One word; cakes! While The Summerhouse serves a wide range of lunches, from baked potatoes to paninis and soup, it really excels in the cake department. Homemade, plentiful and not shy on the portions, they go well with the decent coffee that’s on offer.
Well, cakes are a fine choice. But if you’re after a proper lunch, the baked potatoes aren’t to be ignored.
Positively cosmopolitan, especially when the sun makes an appearance. People watching couldn’t be better as runners, dog walkers, families and couples pass by enjoying the city centre’s most picturesque of locations.
Happy, efficient and never rushed or flustered.
The best spot in Cardiff, without a doubt. Bute Park and its neighbouring Castle Park are the centre’s most cherished areas... It’s the calming, charming yin to the city’s hectic, heady yang.
Coffees for £1.75, cakes for £2.50, baked potatoes for £3-4... An ideal price for a lunchtime treat.
Another council run cafe is The Hayes Snack Bar on The Hayes in the city centre, which is just as good for lunch time people watching.
