Cardiff’s first ever vegetarian cafe, established almost 40 years ago.

As Cardiff legend has it, Crumbs’ founder Judi was the first person to bring brown rice into Wales. I’m unsure about that, but I do know they’re the city’s most long standing vegetarian cafe, and their popularity is such that at lunch times there’s usually a massive queue running out of the restaurant and cluttering up the pretty arcade outside!

Food and drink

Veggie and vegan, hearty and wholesome, Crumbs specialise in fresh food that really fills a spot. From nourishing breakfasts to their ‘pick n mix’ salads, they know their niche well. I also find their range of fair trade coffees really impressive.

Recommended dishes

You can go wrong with their crisp baked potatoes topped their tangy bean chilli. Save some space for the homemade carrot cake though!

Ambience

Crumbs is busy from breakfast onwards. Expect an excited hustle and bustle, especially during dinner time as workers often queue outside to wait for their veggie lunchtime treat.

Service

Service can be a little slow. If you’re looking for a quick lunch fix then you might want to give Crumbs a miss. If, however, you’re after a leisurely luncheon, watching the shoppers of Morgan’s Arcade going by, then the staff’s pace is no problem at all.

Location

Crumbs is tucked away in the wonderful warren of Morgan’s Arcade in the city centre, just beyond The Hayes.
