Food and drink
Asian influenced offerings are the name of the game here and a heavy seafood slant is evident. The sushi bar does a roaring trade and there are plenty of well-matched wines to choose from, many by the glass.
The miso cured salmon and sesame crusted tuna have a following but I am mad about crispy fried coriander, lime and hoisin calamari. Order a selection of the gourmet spring rolls to share and the Peking duck confit is decadent and delicious.
There's always a buzz at this busy restaurant - more so in the summer months. Its social butterfly daytime self becomes a more atmospheric space come sundown and, on weekend nights, it's especially busy. Upstairs at Wafu, after-lunch sundowners morph into supper and after-dinner drinks go on late into the night.
The service is mostly efficient and knowledgeable however it can also be sorely stretched at peak times.
Opposite the promenade in Mouille Point, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
An average main course costs 120 rand.
Tables to book
If it's a special occasion, a window seat is a must - I prefer to be one table away from the window as the views are still there but the breeze, when and if it comes up, isn't.
Wakame has a sister restaurant Wasabi in Constantia. See the website below for details.
