4.3

From the hip heights of Cannes catering, the views are outstanding.

This is not the place to go to if you wear socks with your sandals and carry an overseas edition of the Daily Star. Very few places are, of course, but this is especially not.

Perched on the top (sixth) floor of the new and ultra-cool 1835 White Palm Hotel, Le 360° has the design surroundings which urge writers on French life-style magazines to hyperbole that would drown more normal people. Then again, the terrace and lounge area are pretty damned cool.

As importantly, they offer the loveliest panorama in town. From the Esterel hills out to the Med and back round to Cannes’ port and old town, it’s really an all-round vision. Hence the restaurant’s name, of course.

Chew with a view

Food-wise, chef Raynald Thivet has a tricky balance to keep. Attached to the hotel is Cannes’ most recent and up-do-date spa – so there are well-being elements at large, so the poor chap has to mix the healthy with the tempting. Though not everyone agrees, I think he does so rather successfully. Dishes like sea-bream in thyme and lemon juice, supreme of roast pigeon and herb ravioli with shellfish hit the spot more often than not.

And, certainly, they’re given a special extra flavour by views which even the most talented life-style designer would struggle to match. If you can't fall in love here, I fear your case is hopeless.

Food and drink

Mainly Mediterranean – with eastern elements and an interesting contemporary twist. Look out for ‘Wisdom’ (‘Sagesse’) items on the menu if your main culinary concern is keeping healthy. But please don’t insist that your husband does the same.

Ambience

Cosmopolitan, with a good sprinkling of the sleek and chic. But don’t worry. I’m as sleek and chic as a Transit van, and I feel quite at home.

Service

Sleek and chic.

Location

On the sixth floor of the 1835 White Palm hotel which, itself overlooks both the port and beaches to the west of the centre.

Price advice

Think around 45.90 euros for the lunchtime menu, 56 euros at dinner. Going à la carte will boost both prices, of course.
