4.6

Upmarket but relaxed and reasonably priced, this bistro is just what Brighton needs.

Sam’s is rather like a favourite shirt that can be dressed up or down to suit your mood - it’s a great choice for all sorts of occasions, from hanging out with mates to treating an elderly relative. There’s also something distinctly sexy about the location - it’s in a breezy part of [node:173585], close to the sea, with a secret-hideaway feel. The food is always reliably good.

Food and drink

The menu, which changes regularly, features locally-sourced meat, fish and produce served with delicious sauces and good, honest servings of fresh vegetables. There’s always a good choice of wine from Sussex and elsewhere.

Ambience

The Regency windows, simple but chic furniture and walls hung with black and white family photos all lend an intimate, homely feel.

Service

The staff are friendly and efficient.

Sam’s is a little under a mile west of [node:173582] in Kemptown. If you’re staying at [node:171131], [node:171454] or [node:171450], it’s an easy saunter. The Brighton Ballroom is next door.

Price advice
