Jamie's Italian

4.5

This coastal outpost of the Jamie Oliver empire makes a lively addition to The Lanes.

Jamie’s not Italian, of course, but apparently he rather wishes he was. His love of Italy and all its popular trappings - colour, noise, drama, Vespas - really shines at this, his first Brighton restaurant. The upbeat, youthful vibe attracts large, cheerful crowds and it’s a great place for a casual meal with friends.

Food and drink

Italian food, Jamie-style, means fresh fish baked in a wood-fired oven, colourful salads and wonderful, rustic pasta and meat dishes. All the wine is Italian; you can ask the staff for a taste if you’re not sure which one to choose.

Ambience

The space is large - there are two floors and an outdoor terrace - and loud.

Service

The staff are young, enthusiastic and motivated, but when the place is really crowded it can take a while for orders to arrive.

Location

Just inland from the seafront, it's on the edge of [node:173590].

Price advice

At £11-£16.50 for a main course it may seem pricey for a place with a casual feel, but standards are high.

Tables to book

Booking isn’t possible unless you’re in a large party, so you may have to queue.

Branches

Jamie’s Italians are popping up all over the country. Brighton also has a Jamie Oliver Recipease cook shop which serves breakfast, brunch and lunch (72 Western Road, Brighton BN1 2HA, food served Mon–Sat 8am–3pm, Sun 9am–3pm).
