Food and drink
Maxwell serves light, seasonal cuisine. The menu is eclectic, focusing on traditional regional fare but branching into Mediterranean-style dishes. To start try the hand-cut beef carpaccio or spicy gazpacho, followed by the smoked duck breast with ratatouille, roast wild boar with prunes or veal medallions with basil gnocchi. The restaurant has a special selection of wines, with reserves set aside for special requests.
The restaurant is usually busy with a lively atmosphere, with regulars and celebrity patrons. Maxwell occupies a listed brick building with a neo-Gothic façade, dating back to 1893. The interior features burgundy leather seats and works of art, while the elegant courtyard offers al-fresco dining on summer evenings.
Friendly but not overly attentive; when it’s busy you may be left waiting.
Maxwell is located in the Kreuzberg district in the centre of the city.
Main courses are 16-24 euros.
