Narrow Calle della Pietà leads to the lagoon-side Riva degli Schiavoni. St Mark’s Square is no more than five minutes’ stroll away.
There are bright and clean single, double and dorm rooms, all with air-con and an adequate breakfast thrown in. Accommodation is basic but comfortable.
Large sitting rooms have a decidedly institutional feel, but the views over Venice’s rooftops and the domes of St Mark’s basilica from here and from the terrace are quite stunning.
Eating and drinking
A rather spartan breakfast is included in the room price, and there’s a little bar which serves refreshments all day.
Who stays there
Backpackers, students, pilgrims and anyone seeking a very inexpensive base right at the heart of Venice.
Doubles start to become worthwhile in mid-to-high high season when prices at more comfortable options elsewhere in the city soar; singles are a slightly better deal. If you’re travelling on a shoestring, however, the year-round tab for a bed in a dorm room is difficult to beat.
