Excellent. Amidst all the history of Valletta, just inside its massive fortifications on a narrow stepped street of local limestone. A short walk from all the sites and restaurants of the capital and a few minutes from the main bus station (and cab rank) where colourful and inexpensive buses leave every few minutes for destinations all over the island.
In need of a refurb, though all are ensuite. Sea view rooms have balconies with sweeping views over the Grand Harbour and some rooms have air con. Rooms for up to four people are available.
I find the ground floor reception rather unwelcoming and dark, but but the upper floors - including the winter lounge on the third floor (with an enclosed balcony), the seventh floor restaurant, and the roof terrace - have spectacular views of the Grand Harbour.
Eating and drinking
The bar on the ground floor is not especially inviting but the seventh floor restaurant and the roof terrace have magnificent views. Breakfast is basic continental; you don’t come here for the food. Valletta, however has lots of good restaurants, all a few minutes stroll away.
Mixed – it depends who is on duty.
Who stays there
