In the middle of busy Corso Italia, the maison couldn't be more conveniently located for shops and restaurants, and it's a ten-minute walk to the port or to the train station.
One of the best things about the rooms here is their size. They're enormous. Twelve rooms (including three loft spaces), spread over three floors, are decorated in a contemporary style that works really well with the antique feel of the public areas (only the superior room has those gorgeous doors). Tiled floors, club chairs, enormous beds with vast padded headboards, and fabulous tiled bathrooms that have the biggest shower heads I've ever seen. There is a sweet little terrace with sunbeds on the top floor that is for the use of all the guests.
The dining room is exquisite and is intended to be the focus of the whole operation (it can host up to 35 people for dinner) but through those fabulous gilded doors is a lounge area with another frescoed ceiling. A little outdoor terrace looking onto the internal courtyard is perfect for pre-prandial drinks.
Eating and drinking
Breakfast is continental and buffet-style. Guests can also take advantage of the fact that the hotel is related to local restaurant La Lanterna, which can cater and provide staff for any special events.
It's early days for Tofani but the future holds cooking demonstrations, wine tasting and guided tours. The hotel can also arrange the increasingly popular 'Botel' accommodation: spending the night and having breakfast on a boat. A small winery is located in the courtyard.
Service is excellent and staff are really keen to make your stay as fabulous as possible. If you're driving, parking is available 400 metres from the hotel and there is a transfer service.
Who stays there
Anyone with something to celebrate, or an interest in architecture, food and design (oh, and shopping, sightseeing, sailing…).
Generally weekdays are cheaper than weekends and there are some competitive rates to be had at the beginning and end of the season (spring and autumn).
