Address: San Fernando 2, Seville, 41004, Spain

Star rating:
5 star hotel

4.6

Grand-style luxury in opulent surroundings at Seville's premiere 5-star hotel.

Important Update: From May 31, 2011 through March 30, 2012, the hotel with be entirely closed to undergo a complete restoration.

Seville's oldest luxury hotel, now a part of the Starwood Hotels Group, is still where royalty and friends of royalty choose to stay when in town. A blend of baroque, Castillian and Mudejar styles, it's really quite splendid and is something of a Seville icon. It also houses some rather exclusive shops and has one of the most sumptuous buffet breakfasts I've ever enjoyed.

Location

The Alfonso XIII Hotel has an excellent location at the very edge of the famed Barrio Santa Cruz, and is just a few minutes walk from all the main city attractions and shops.

Bedrooms

To say you get a wide choice of room options is a bit of an understatement. There are no “standard doubles” here, instead you get a choice between deluxe and grand deluxe rooms, then junior, deluxe and executive suites…and the royal suite. The latter, at 200 square metres, is about the size of a nice roomy flat. Having said that the deluxe rooms are probably about the same size as a superior double anywhere else. Lots of antique furniture and damask wall-coverings, along with modern conveniences.

Public areas

My favourite place by far is the central courtyard, where you can go for tea or a glass of cava, being a part of the San Fernando restaurant. It's also worth just taking a small tour of the various floors and lounge areas, which are available to all guests (the general public is relegated to the main floor). And you can also enjoy the outdoor pool that is prettily-situated in the gardens.

Eating and drinking

A variety of restaurants and bars include the San Fernando bar and restaurant (with a pianist in the evenings) and the Alfonso cocktail bar.

Leisure facilities

There is a lovely outdoor pool in the gardens and also a fitness centre with massage and beauty treatments available.

Service

As you might expect, the service is very formal and polite, but you will feel very well looked after.

Who stays there

Royalty, celebs, and anyone who enjoys the full five-star treatment.
