Style and quality in the leafiest quarter of the city.

Modernists will love this fashionable boutique hotel. It is located in the city’s residential area on the La Rambla boulevard where Santacruceros stroll to see and be seen. The hotel’s trendy Macusamba Bar and Lounge is a popular meeting place for the city’s cool set.

Location

Alongside the stunning, tropical gardens of Parque García Sanabria on La Rambla del General Franco, where you'll find much of the city’s collection of excellent street art – a legacy of the 1974 International Street Sculpture Exhibition - including works by such luminaries as Joan Miró and Oscar Dominguez. Easy strolling to bars, restaurants and shopping.

Bedrooms

Dark polished wood floors, white walls and rich chocolate furnishings make the most of light and space while platform beds are large, low and comfortably firm. All rooms have flat screen TVs and WiFi as standard. Rooms facing La Rambla experience some noise from the road, the ones facing the side streets are quieter; view or silence - your call.

Public areas

Colour schemes are masculine and business-like, with strong use of dark wood on floors and wall panelling complemented by cream leather seating. It all feels a bit like a contemporary and exclusive gentleman’s club to me.

Eating and drinking

Contemporáneo’s chic Macusamba Bar & Lounge on the ground floor provides an excellent breakfast and its outside terrace buzzes with office workers and shoppers in the mornings. Dark wood, chocolate leather banquettes and rattan chairs create contemporary elegance in the Alfredo restaurant where chefs presents a fusion of Mediterranean and Canarian haute cuisine to the city’s fashionistas. Try the Alfredo steak with melted foie gras on banana flavoured potato puree.

Leisure facilities

A small open air pool with half a dozen sun loungers and a Jacuzzi; if you want to work off those Alfredo-gained calories, try jogging in Parque García Sanabria.

Service

Efficient and business-like to reflect the majority of the hotel’s guests. Dining at Alfredo’s can feel a bit stiff but the Macusamba Bar has a lively and fun atmosphere.

Who stays there

Predominantly single, male business travellers, but during Carnaval fortnight the hotel serves as the perfect base - close enough for easy access but far enough away for a peaceful sleep.
