Star rating:
3 star hotel

4.3

Lanzarote’s top three-star beachfront hotel is excellent value and has great facilities.

As you lie on your sun lounger by one of the pools looking out over the ocean to Fuerteventura, with beer and sangria on tap you may find yourself as pleased as I was that I picked this hotel. One of the first hotels in Playa Blanca, it has a touch of classic colonial style.

Location

Right on the beachfront, 50 metres from the sandy beach of Playa Flamingo and on the edge of the resort, a pleasant 15-minute walk along the promenade into the centre of Playa Blanca.

Bedrooms

A series of attractive, local-style, low-rise buildings snaking around the swimming pools house a variety of rooms. Some have a balcony or terrace, and some have a sea view; there are also interconnected family rooms. The bright blue and yellow décor with pale wood furniture is pleasing. Although there is no air conditioning in the rooms, fans can be rented at a reasonable rate.

Public areas

Choose from no less than seven pools, surrounded by landscaped areas dotted with palm trees. There is also a volleyball court and a compact fitness centre.

Eating and drinking

The extensive seating outside the spacious bar area is a popular place for an evening drink. A bright buffet restaurant offers breakfast and dinner; continental breakfasts and à la carte lunches can be had at the casual pool Restaurant Mirador.

Leisure facilities

A zany bingo game was proving popular on my last visit. The hotel has a lively programme of entertainment night and day, with dance lessons, a disco and shows throughout the week. Take part in table tennis, rifle shooting and archery. Over 13s can attend the ‘Teeny club’, while kids between 4 and 12 are catered for during the day in the kid's club.

Service

From the front desk to maid service, staff are generally very helpful and happy.

Who stays there

British families make up the bulk of the guests, particularly during the summer months; off season it is very much couples.

Price advice

It is a real bargain to upgrade to a bigger room with separate lounge and bedroom, as well as to upgrade to unlimited free drinks at dinner. Think twice before paying extra for a sea view, though – most of the rooms have some kind of sea glimpses.
