5 star hotel

4.5

The discreetly Parisian luxe of a fashionista's favourite.

The flagship of the French luxury group is chic without being over-aweing, in keeping with its location tucked discretely between place de la Concorde and Faubourg St-Honoré. This is a hotel for those who search style but without the name-dropping of the [node:119812] or the Crillon in either direction.

Location

Tucked between place de la Concorde and the Faubourg-St-Honoré, you could hardly be more central, whether it's for visiting [node:168630] at the far end of the Tuileries or designer fashion and bijoux.

Bedrooms

The double rooms have a smart classic feel, with the comfortable updated period style of decorator Pierre-Yves Rochon. The hotel recently reduced the number of rooms to create 22 spacious new suites with a more contemporary edge by designer Didier Gomez: great lighting and subtle fashion references. An added plus in the top of the range Opéra Suite and Couture Apartment are the black mosaic bathrooms that double as your own private steam room. All rooms have the Sofitel MyBed concept - deep and very comfortable, with massive pillows. Lovely Hermès bath products, too.

Public areas

Downstairs lounges with outsize vases, big sofas and classic console tables are classic and a little cluttered but I like the glazed atrium courtyard, which brings light into the heart of the building. Corridors are decorated with cleverly chosen fashion photos in reference to the building's past as the offices of Marie-Claire magazine.

Eating and drinking

The Club 30 bar is all about panelling and a 30s lounge bar feel, though feels rather staid and lifeless; on the other hand, Café le Faubourg is a favourite lunch haunt of local fashion industry types. There is also the possiblity of hot and cold room service.

Leisure facilities

Fitness room and small spa.

Service

Smart and serious.

Who stays there

Businessy during the week, well-heeled couples at the weekend, and a favourite with the fashion industry.

As the Sofitel brand draws a large business clientele, it can be a good place to find weekend and August offers.
