On 54th Street between 7th and 6th Avenues, I find this block a bit generic but it's still a good location for visits to Central Park, Times Square and Midtown business hubs.
The David Collins-designed suites (there are no rooms just suites) are quite lovely - 500 feet and up with separate living room and bedroom that can be opened up into one large open space. With muted greys, blues and pinks accenting the white space, the overall effect is pleasant but not flashy. The bedding is by Fili d'Oro, one of my faves from Italy and I like the double rain showers and big desks which are good if you are in town for business. Ask for a vista suite if you want to guarantee a good view.
A little bit generic.
Eating and drinking
Maze by Gordon Ramsay is one of the hotel's main draws but it is definitely an event restaurant - ie, it's pricey and service is slow so it's not ideal if you want to have a business lunch in a hurry. Sit in one of the tables up front by the bar for a more casual experience.
Nice big stylish gym and meeting rooms.
Service was seriously uneven when the hotel debuted but management seemed to have heard the complaints and now things are running more smoothly. The courtesy car which will take you within 20 blocks of the hotel is a nice touch.
Who stays there
Homesick Brits, foodies who want to make sure to make it to the restaurant, bi-coastal film directors.
They run quite a lot of weekend and off-season specials.
