The W has a number of properties in town but this is the one with the best address as far as I am concerned; on the west side of Union Square so it's easy to explore both uptown and downtown, and the 4, 6, N, R and L subway station are just steps away.
Rooms are large and comfortable with big beds and goose down duvets, great work stations and large bathrooms with signature Bliss products. Ask for a view of Irving Park.
The Beaux Arts building, with intact original details like a sweeping staircase, keeps the design from feeling generic.
Eating and drinking
Since there are such amazing restaurants in New York and nearby - one of my favorites Casa Mono is a close walk away - I wouldn't suggest wasting a meal at the on site restaurant Olive's. The food is fine but it's a bit generic. The lobby bar is a popular after work spot though.
There's a gym.
