On a busy stretch of East Houston Street, which abuts the East Village and Lower East Side. Shops and restaurants are mere steps away.
This is a true boutique hotel in that there are only 45 rooms. Rooms run from standards to doubles to business (the last have refrigerators and microwaves for the busy worker). Rooms are compact but cleanly decorated in whites and neutrals and have wooden headboards, LCD TVs, down pillows and Gilchrist & Soames bath products.
The wood and leather lobby is fairly standard as lobbies go but what sets the GEM apart is the large chalkboard listing neighborhood events and staff selections on the best places to eat and play in the area. Guests can post their opinions and experiences as well.
